Karratha Project

EcoMag has been active at Karratha since 2015, where it has access to a large and consistent source of enriched magnesium waste. The project has strong support from the Australian Government, which is offering grants and low-interest loans to assist in establishing the plant.

EcoMag constructed a containerised pilot plant and shipped it to Karratha, where it was installed on land leased from Rainstorm Pty Ltd, adjacent to Australia’s largest solar salt operation (Figure 1). The plant operated for eight months, successfully producing material for conversion into Magnesium Oxide (MgO) and Magnesium (Di-) Hydroxide (MDH).

The quality and performance of the pilot products were validated by prospective customers and industry competitors across Europe, the USA, and Asia, confirming the market viability of EcoMag’s technology.

In addition, the process and overall project design underwent an independent technical review by engineering firm METS Engineering. This "Red Flag" report confirmed there were no critical issues preventing project execution, further validating the technical and commercial readiness of the EcoMag process.
